How Umpires Influence Fantasy Baseball Betting
One factor that many daily fantasy baseball contest players don't consider is, "Who is behind the plate for tonight's game?"  Particular umpires can have a tremendous influence on how individual fantasy players perform.   Umpires with small strike zones squeeze fantasy pitchers, cutting their strikeout totals and putting more men on base, which also increases ERA.  Umpires with large strike zones may have the opposite effect.  Some umpires show favoritism toward the home team.  Some like a quick game, which may help fantasy pitchers and hurt fantasy hitters.  Remember that the umpire rotation is Home-->Third-->Second-->First-->Home.  This means that tonight's first base umpire will likely be behind the plate for tomorrow's game.   Before you select your daily draft fantasy roster, always take a quick look at the home plate umpire stats that we include at Fantasy Sports Handicapping Baseball Homepage under the "Resources/Links" heading.
How Ballparks Influence Daily Fantasy Player Statistics
ESPN produces a great statistic called "Park Factor".  I've included a link to it on the Fantasy Sports Handicapping Baseball Homepage under the "Resources/Links" tab.  Basically, what the statistic does is track the hitting and pitching statistics for every major league ballpark and rank them.   Different ballparks have different effects on fantasy player values and draft rank.  Some parks favor the fantasy hitter, while some favor the fantasy pitcher.  The park factor can make some players real fantasy bargains on certain days and complete fantasy busts on others.  It can also help you choose between two players who may have equal fantasy draft salary ranking on a given day.  Say for instance you had to choose between Johan Santana or Brandon Webb on a particular day.  Santana is pitching at Wrigley, while Webb is going at Dodger Stadium.  Park Factor could make all the difference, so don't neglect it.
