Betting On Fantasy Basketball – Daily Handicapping Tips (3/3/10)

A full game of NBA basketball on the board tonight with 12 games for a huge fix of fantasy action.  Make sure to check the Twitter Feed for last minute player updates.  I’ve got heads up matches going at Fanduel.com and several multiteam tournaments going at FantasySportsLive.com.  Here are tonight’s fantasy basketball handicapping tips:

POINT GUARD:

  • FSL still has Jrue Holiday listed near minimum salary at 11 points, while Fanduel has him listed at $4,900.  He’s getting big minutes and makes a nice low salary roster filler.
  • FSL still has Darren Collison at a low salary of 14 points.  He’s a great roster filler at that price and a must start.
  • C.J. Watson is a nice low priced PG play at FSL and Fanduel with Monta Ellis out.
  • Randy Foye is also a good low priced play at FSL at 15 points and Fanduel at $5,200.
  • Russell Westbrook is a great play if you want a quality PG.  He’s in Denver matched up on Chauncey Billups.
  • Avoid Steve Nash (risky injury play), Rajon Rondo (bad matchup).

SHOOTING GUARD:

  • Marcus Thornton is a nice low salary option tonight.  Keep riding him until he cools off.
  • Eric Gordon is a nice mid-priced play at Phoenix.
  • Kevin Martin faces his old club tonight and should be motivated to put up a big number, but he’s expensive.
  • Steven Jackson is one of the more expensive SGs, but he’s got a tough matchup against Boston, so I’d avoid his salary.
  • Rip Hamilton is recovering from the flu, but he looked good last night and could be a nice mid-price play.
  • Vince Carter has a nice matchup with the fast paced, no defense Warriors.
  • Avoid Monta Ellis, Trevor Ariza, Courtney Lee, and Tracy McGrady.

SMALL FORWARD:

  • Nicolas Batum is a nice low salary play.  He’s been hot and you might want to try and ride the streak.
  • Al Thornton is similary priced to Batum and should get plenty of minutes for the Wizards.
  • FSL still hasn’t adjusted Andray Blatche at 17 points and he is a must play at that salary.  Everyone will probably play him at that salary.
  • Thaddeus Young is an interesting mid-priced play with Elton Brand out tonight.
  • At the top of the SF board, Kevin Durant at Denver and LeBron James at New Jersey are both good matchups.  I’d go with Durant since the CLE/NJN game could be a blowout and the King could sit out the fourth quarter.
  • Avoid Paul Pierce, Gerald Wallace and Wilson Chandler.

POWER FORWARD:

  • Don’t laugh, but Darko Milicic is minimum salary and will likely get the start for a suspended Al Jefferson.  He might be a nice roster filler if you want to pair him with LeBron to stay under the cap.
  • J.J. Hickson is another low priced nice pick.  He will start for Shaq.
  • At the top of the board, I like Antawn Jamison against the Nets.  Shaq is out and Jamison is the beneficiary of more rebounds.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge has a nice matchup against Indiana.
  • David Lee has a nice matchup against Detroit, who might be missing Ben Wallace with a minor injury.
  • Avoid Al Jefferson, Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand, and Jason Thompson.

CENTER:

  • No question that the best Center play is the top player on the board, Dwight Howard.  He has a prime matchup with Golden State and he’s coming off a game where he didn’t play so well.  I feel sorry for Ronny Turiaf.
  • JaVale McGee is a decent minimum salary roster filler.
  • Brendan Haywood is a nice mid-priced play going against Minnesota and Darko Milicic.
  • Brook Lopez gets a matchup with a Shaq-less Cleveland and Andrew Bogut gets a decent start against the Wizards.  Both ok matchups, but the salaries are expensive.
  • Avoid Kendrick Perkins and Ben Wallace.
