Fantasy Nascar Goody’s 500 and Qualifying Betting Picks (3/26/10)
Mar 26, 2010 Nascar Picks
I’m playing this week’s Goody’s 500 Nascar Fantasy Racing games at FantasySportsLive.com (Bonus Code: FSH123) and DraftZone.com (Bonus Code: DZONE304). I’ve got most of my games going at Fantasy Sports Live this weekend, so I’ve listed picks for that game below. The contest is a Qualifying/Sprint Race game with 4 qualifiers and 5 racers with a 950 point driver salary cap. Rosters are due this afternoon. My team for the contest is as follows:
Goody’s 500 Qualifying Picks:
- Joey Logano (59 points) – Logano was the class of the Bristol qualifying, easily grabbing the pole for the race. I expect that he’ll have another good qualifying run at a similar short track in Martinsville.
- Carl Edwards (49 points) – He’s cheap and he’s a little pissed off and out to prove something, so I think he’ll make a good showing, just as he did qualifying 8th at Bristol.
- Jeff Gordon (107 points) – I hate to spend so much salary cap on qualifying, but Gordon should be good for a Top 5 spot. I would have gone with Johnson, but he was too expensive at 175 points. Gordon is good value here.
- Ryan Newman (91 points) or Kurt Busch (93 points) – I’m still debating this one. I’m leaning toward gambling on Newman. He’s grabbed a pole at Martinsville before and I think he can make a good qualifying run for a Top 10 spot. Busch had a great qualifying run last week at Bristol, grabbing the second spot, so he’s a good choice too.
- Other good cheap bets: Dave Blaney (41 points), David Reutimann (54 points) and Matt Kenseth (36 points).
Sprint Race Driver Picks:
- Jeff Gordon (195 points) – I like Jimmie Johnson, but the salary is just expensive at 246 points. Gordon is my most expensive Racer pick, but he’s good value for the 195. I think he finishes Top 5.
- Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (48 points) – He’s so unpredictable that there is no certainty to where he’s going to finish, but at only 48 points you have to plug him in to your roster and hope for the best.
- Tony Stewart (161 points) – Stewart fought hard at Bristol but ended up the first loser in second place. I think he keeps it rolling at Martinsville.
- Clint Bowyer (162 points) – Kurt Busch (167) , Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth (152) and Kevin Harvick (155) are all bunched right round 160 points and I have enough salary to go with any of the four. I’m going to go against the crowd and play Bowyer here. Bowyer blew and engine last week and took a 40th place finish, so the team needs to have a very good showing at Martinsville. He’s got one top 5 and four top 10 finishes in 10 races in Martinsville.
- Jamie McMurray (62 points) – This is one of McMurray’s better tracks and he’s always been a tough competitor here. He scored an 8th place finish last week at another short track at Bristol. He should make a good showing this week and the price is really nice at 62 points.
