Tomorrow is opening day for Major League Baseball and the first day of the season for daily fantasy baseball players. I’ve decided to make Fanduel.com my primary site for the start of the season, as it seems to be easy to find opponents on that site. I have also signed up for some games on FantasySportsLive.com, Draftstreet.com and FantasyFactor.com.

Fanduel.com is having a $25,000 Fantasy Baseball Tournament on Friday, April 1 to kick off the season. I’ve got one team in the tournament. I’m not a fan of these huge multifield ‘lotteries’. What the hell, it’s only $10 for the lottery ticket, maybe I’ll get lucky.

As for this season’s bankroll, I’m starting with $1000 on Fanduel, $500 on FSL and $300 on FantasyFactor. I’ve got a $1oo on Draftstreet, but might add more later. I’ll be posting my bankroll progression throughout the season.

I’ve actually spent about 2 weeks putting my stats notebook together for fantasy baseball. Hopefully, it will get me off to a solid start for the first month of the season before I have to update it.

Good luck to everyone playing this season and I promise I’ll try to post more often. Sometimes things just get hectic around here and blogging gets pushed to the back burner.

Play Ball!!

It’s time to get the Fantasy Sports Handicapping blog back up and running for the 2011 fantasy baseball season! Welcome to all the guys who followed me over from my basketball blog, FantasyBasketballDaily.com.

I’m doing something a little different with the blog this season. This year I will be focusing strictly on daily fantasy baseball games and posting my thoughts and strategies for various daily fantasy sites. I’m probably not going to be blogging every single day, but I hope to at least try and put something up 4-5 times a week. I’m also going to do a running account of my plays with profit and loss for each site, just to see what kind of financial potential is available from the daily fantasy baseball games. Hopefully the strategy and bankroll information will be interesting and helpful to guys playing the daily fantasy scene. I’ll also be offering up a few fantasy baseball roster selections each day.

We’ve still got about three weeks until the season starts and I look forward to picking up the posting pace as opening day approaches.

I’m continuing my series of reviewing the best fantasy gaming sites for the upcoming baseball season and today we examine FantasySportsLive.com. This site has, by far, the best and most balanced fantasy baseball setup of any of the sites I play on. If you sign up at FSL, you can use our bonus code of FSH123 and receive extra cash with your first deposit. I play under the name ‘Tippy’, so say hello if you see me around. On to the Fantasy Sports Live Website Review:

The points and categories used in the games at Fantasy Sports Live are very simple and balanced. The rosters are made up of the standard nine positions of C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF and SP. Most of the games are salary cap games, although there are games with no salary cap and auto-draft games without a cap. There are many levels of salary caps, so it’s easy to find a skill level game to suit your taste. There are also games limited to strictly new players to allow you to get used to the setup without having to incur the more experienced players.

There are several different sizes of fantasy baseball games and buyin amounts at FSL. There are heads up games, as well as 3, 6 and 10 player tourneys. There are also some larger field tourneys on the way. Buyin structures are available for any size budget from lowroller to highroller. You can play for as little as $1 a game or for as much as $266 per game.

Once you have chosen your 9 player roster, it’s time to get the game started. The game scoring breaks down as follows:

Hitting Stats: Single (1 point), Double (2 points), Triple (3 points), Home Run (4 points), RBI (2 points), Run Scored (2 points), Stolen Base (2 points), Walk (1 point) and Strikeout (-1 point).

Pitching Stats: Outs (1 point), Hits Allowed (-1 point), Walks Allowed (-1 point), Earned Runs Allowed (-2 points), Strikeouts (1 point), Win (8 points). Pitcher’s hitting statistics are not counted.

I asked Kevin of FSL to give me a quick rundown of the features of the fantasy baseball games at his site for our readers and he had this to say, ”FantasySportsLive.com, the original website with salary cap based daily fantasy sports leagues, is proud to offer its 4th season of daily fantasy baseball in 2010. Fantasy Sport Live will continue to offer the largest variety of fantasy league structures, draft methods, and entry fee amounts ($1 to $266) with the highest payout percentages in the industry. All league prize payouts are fully guaranteed, and league payouts can exceed 100% at FSL.”

There are some new features at the site this season which he described, “Several features are new at FSL for the 2010 Fantasy Baseball season. 25 and 50 player Fantasy Baseball leagues are now offered with the top five positions paid cash prizes. FSL also has a new automated draft method where in just a couple of minutes you can prepare for an automated draft that will result in a completely unique fantasy baseball team for yourself and your heads-up opponent. The autodraft will work great for fantasy baseball because so many teams play each day, and all 9 fantasy positions are unique. FSL also has new Beginner Leagues that only allow new users with less than 100 wins to enter. These are a safe place for new users to work on their daily fantasy baseball skills before taking on the regulars at the site.”

As I stated above, the games at FSL are the most balanced that you will find on any sites. Kevin explained it as follows, “As far as fantasy baseball scoring, there will be no changes this year. FSL has been working on their daily fantasy baseball scoring system for years, and with the changes made prior to last year, it is about as good as it gets. The scoring system allows for all types of starting pitchers and hitters to be considered for drafting, and is not overly focused on strikeouts pitchers and homerun hitters. If you want to profit from your Fantasy Baseball knowledge, you need to be playing at Fantasy Sports Live in 2010.”

One of the advantages that the scoring system at Fantasy Sports Live has over the other competitors is it’s transparency and simplicity. For the baseball rankings cap games, the salary cap is based on the actual value of the individual players, rather than being converted to some arbitrary dollar salary like some other sites use. Having to convert raw stats into a money salary is a real difficulty, but FSL lets you avoid that by using a player’s true stats. The ’salary’ of a player is simply 10x his average fantasy points per game. Divide a player’s salary by 10 and you have his average fantasy points scored per game. Very clear and easy and it enables you to pinpoint player values accurately.

Fantasy Sports Live is one of my favorite places to play and it should be one of yours as well. I’ll see you guys in the fantasy games at FSL!

I’m playing this week’s Goody’s 500 Nascar Fantasy Racing games at FantasySportsLive.com (Bonus Code: FSH123) and DraftZone.com (Bonus Code: DZONE304). I’ve got most of my games going at Fantasy Sports Live this weekend, so I’ve listed picks for that game below. The contest is a Qualifying/Sprint Race game with 4 qualifiers and 5 racers with a 950 point driver salary cap. Rosters are due this afternoon. My team for the contest is as follows:

Goody’s 500 Qualifying Picks:

Joey Logano (59 points) – Logano was the class of the Bristol qualifying, easily grabbing the pole for the race. I expect that he’ll have another good qualifying run at a similar short track in Martinsville.

Carl Edwards (49 points) – He’s cheap and he’s a little pissed off and out to prove something, so I think he’ll make a good showing, just as he did qualifying 8th at Bristol.

Jeff Gordon (107 points) – I hate to spend so much salary cap on qualifying, but Gordon should be good for a Top 5 spot. I would have gone with Johnson, but he was too expensive at 175 points. Gordon is good value here.

Ryan Newman (91 points) or Kurt Busch (93 points) – I’m still debating this one. I’m leaning toward gambling on Newman. He’s grabbed a pole at Martinsville before and I think he can make a good qualifying run for a Top 10 spot. Busch had a great qualifying run last week at Bristol, grabbing the second spot, so he’s a good choice too.

Other good cheap bets: Dave Blaney (41 points), David Reutimann (54 points) and Matt Kenseth (36 points).

Sprint Race Driver Picks:

Jeff Gordon (195 points) – I like Jimmie Johnson, but the salary is just expensive at 246 points. Gordon is my most expensive Racer pick, but he’s good value for the 195. I think he finishes Top 5.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (48 points) – He’s so unpredictable that there is no certainty to where he’s going to finish, but at only 48 points you have to plug him in to your roster and hope for the best.

Tony Stewart (161 points) – Stewart fought hard at Bristol but ended up the first loser in second place. I think he keeps it rolling at Martinsville.

Clint Bowyer (162 points) – Kurt Busch (167) , Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth (152) and Kevin Harvick (155) are all bunched right round 160 points and I have enough salary to go with any of the four. I’m going to go against the crowd and play Bowyer here. Bowyer blew and engine last week and took a 40th place finish, so the team needs to have a very good showing at Martinsville. He’s got one top 5 and four top 10 finishes in 10 races in Martinsville.

Jamie McMurray (62 points) – This is one of McMurray’s better tracks and he’s always been a tough competitor here. He scored an 8th place finish last week at another short track at Bristol. He should make a good showing this week and the price is really nice at 62 points.
