NBA Fantasy Basketball Sports Betting Picks and Handicapping News (3/4/10)

Only three games on the NBA schedule for Thursday, so there isn’t much to bet on in daily draft fantasy basketball tonight.  Everyone will likely have similar fantasy rosters, which makes the games come down to the luck of a few players.  Not the smart way to gamble.  Make sure you check the Twitter Feed on the homepage for any gametime status updates.   Here are tonight’s betting picks:

POINT GUARD:

  • Mike Conley is probably the best PG value pick against Chicago.  Derrick Rose’s defense might be slowed a little with an injury and Conley has been hot the last few games.
  • Steve Nash is a risky playat an expensive salary, but Goran Dragic is likely out, so Nash should get big minutes.
  • Deron Williams is a better play than Nash for only a little more salary.
  • The PG situations in Miami and LALakers are both horrible, avoid them all.

SHOOTING GUARD:

  • Wes Matthews is minimum salary and he gets minutes.  You could pair him with Kobe or Wade and stay under the cap.
  • Jason Richarson is a decent mid-priced option.  You never really know what you are going to get with him, but the board is so thin tonight that the risk is probably justified.
  • Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade are both very expensive, but I’d go with Wade if you want to spend the money.  Kobe hasn’t been shooting well at all.

SMALL FORWARD:

  • Grant Hill and Ron Artest are decent options in the mid-priced range, although I’m not really crazy about either.
  • Luol Deng is expensive and he’s hurting.  Avoid him.
  • Andrei Kirilenko is still fighting back problems, so avoid him.
  • Rudy Gay is the best play on the board.  He’s richly priced, but probably worth it on a thin night.

POWER FORWARD:

  • PF is the position where you can get away cheaply tonight.  Taj Gibson is still priced fairly low and should be a great play with Joakim Noah out and Brad Miller hurting.  The Bulls just don’t have anyone else.
  • Jermaine O’Neal is dealing with a bad hammy, so Udonis Haslem could see a bump in minutes.
  • Paul Millsap is a solid mid-priced option.
  • Zach Randolph is probably my favorite PF play against a very depleted Chicago interior.  Randolph and M. Gasol should both have big nights.
  • Avoid Michael Beasley, he’s just been too inconsistent lately and he has a tough matchup against the Lakers.

CENTER:

  • Marc Gasol is my favorite Center play tonight against a weak and injured Chicago interior.
  • Jermaine O’Neal has a bad hamstring, avoid him.  Although, if O’Neal is going to be out, Joel Anthony at minimum salary could be a decent roster filler.
  • Avoid Brad Miller, he’s banged up.
  • Mehmet Okur is a nice mid-priced play.
  • Avoid the Channing Frye/Robin Lopez situation, just too risky.
